The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MONBUKAGAKUSHO, MEXT) offers two types of scholarshipss:
I. “Research Students”

I. Required qualifications
1. “Research Students” –
citizen – Be born after 2 April 1985 inclusive
* All details are well understood in the “Application Guideline”
2. “College of Technology Students” –
citizen – Be born after April 2, 1995
* all details are well documented in the “Application Guideline” document
II. Selection criteria
– Have a complete file filled in (incomplete files will be rejected)
– Submit applications within the prescribed time limits
– Have the required age
– Have a detailed research theme for “Research students”
3. Schedule and selection steps
– April 2019: Call for applications
– 17 May 2019: last deadline for the submission of candidatures to the Embassy (the postmark is proof)
Step 1:
Preselection on file –
Beginning of June: announcement by email of the results of the preselection
Step 2:
– June (date to be defined): exams and competitions
– July (date to be defined): announcement by email of the results of the exams
Step 3:
– July 2019 (date to be defined): interview with the selected
– July-August 2019 (date to be defined): telephone announcement of the results of the interview
– Until August 23, 2019: last deadline to request the letter of acceptance to Japanese universities
– January-February 2020: announcement of the final results of MEXT.
– Mid-March 2020: pre-departure orientation meeting for Japan.
– Beginning of April / October 2020: Arrival of Fellows in Japan.
4. Necessary preparations:
* All documents must be written in English. If no, please attach the original of the translation in English with a true copy of the translated document.
* Please prepare an original and 2 copies of all documents requested below , except “Placement Preference Form 2020”.
