Paid training at the European Economic and Social Commission in Brussels

Twice a year, the European Economic and Social Committee proposes five-month traineeships to university graduates who are nationals of a Member State of the European Union, as well as a number of university graduates from from third countries.

These internship periods are an opportunity to become familiar with the functions and activities of the EESC and gain professional experience in a multicultural environment. The courses start each year on 16 February and 16 September and take place at the Committee’s headquarters in Brussels. For a brief description of the EESC organization chart and tasks generally assigned to trainees, please consult this document .

As provided for in the provisions on traineeships at the EESC (Decision 201/16 A), a scholarship is awarded to long-term trainees. For long-term internships between 16/02/2019 and 15/02/2020, the monthly amount of the scholarship is fixed at EUR 1,196.84. This amount will remain unchanged until the end of the 2019 autumn training period, that is until 15/02/2020.

Since there are many more applications than available places, it is important:

  • that you respond in time and accurately to e-mails from the European Economic and Social Committee.
  • that you do not contact (either in writing or by telephone) with any of our services but that you expect an answer from us first.

If your application is pre-selected, you will be notified by email. At that time, you will be asked to send copies of the relevant documents (university diploma (s), previous employment contracts, identity card or passport). It is not necessary to send a certified copy of your diploma. Candidates who do not have a university degree can send a letter from the university stating that they have successfully completed a level corresponding to three years of university studies. Please note that your application may be updated until your status is “application registered”. Do not send your documents if you are not invited to do so by a personal email.

Selected applicants will be required to submit an original criminal record extract and a medical certificate at a later date (trainees must provide evidence that they are fit for work during the probationary period). Make sure you keep a copy of all documents sent to the Trainees Office.

Do not send originals of your diploma (s) or other vouchers (unless otherwise noted above).

It is not advisable to send an email to the functional box or to one of our services to support your application. The selection is anonymous and personal contacts are not allowed.
